On September 9rd, the "Policy Seminar for Establishing Condensation Prevention Design Standards for Small-Scale Apartment Complexes," co-hosted by our society and the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology and organized by the Korea Environmental Architecture Institute, was held in the basement auditorium of the Architecture Center. This seminar addressed the long-standing issue of "condensation-related disputes and deteriorating residential environments in apartment complexes," as well as the current exclusion of small-scale apartment complexes with fewer than 3 units from condensation performance evaluations. The seminar aimed to explore the need for and direction of institutional reform.
The seminar began with opening remarks by Chairman Park Jin-cheol and congratulatory remarks by Honorary Chairman Lee Gyeong-hoe (currently Chairman of the Korea Environmental Architecture Research Institute). The first presenter, Seok In-ho, Secretary General of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Defect Inspection and Dispute Mediation Committee, raised issues about the current situation, focusing on cases of disputes caused by condensation in apartment complexes. The second presenter, Dr. Koo Bo-kyung of the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, presented “Technical Response Directions for Condensation Prevention Design Standards in Apartment Complexes,” proposing revisions to the standards, including reflection of regional classifications according to energy-saving design standards and subdivision of evaluation criteria according to window characteristics. The third and final presenter, Park Myeong-gyu, Director of the Smart Technology Center at the Korea Environmental Architecture Research Institute, presented the occurrence of condensation in apartment complexes with fewer than 500 households, related problems, and proposed institutional improvement measures.
After the presentation, the chairperson of the Defect Dispute Mediation Committee, Jeong Tae-hwa, moderated the forum, and experts from industry, academia, research, and government, including the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's Housing Construction Supply Division Director Lee Yun-gu, Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology Center Director Lee Yun-gu, Ewha Womans University Professor Lim Jae-han, LH Land and Housing Research Institute Center Director Kim Gil-tae, Samsung C&T Professional Jo Woo-jin, and EcoNow Headquarters Director Moon Myung-hee, participated to discuss the direction of system improvement from various angles.
