👉OHOO ARCHITECTS is an architectural firm founded in Seoul in 2019 by two partners, Seoyoung Noh and Arin Kim.
I have undertaken projects of various scales and purposes, ranging from single-family homes that delicately handle small spaces to neighborhood facilities used by the general public, and multi-unit dwellings that encompass multiple generations. Believing that architecture is not merely about designing space but about capturing a narrative, I continue to pursue this philosophy of design.
Does 'Ohhoo Architects' have a unique philosophy or set of values?
Rather than being confined to grandiose discourses, we prioritize the value of everyday life. Our work begins with the close observation of daily life. We read the unique potential of a place to record the stories hidden within it, and imagine new landscapes within the relationships formed between people and spaces.
Defining the completion of architecture not as an end but as the beginning of a new narrative, we focus on creating a foundation that flexibly accommodates the stories that will fill the space after completion. We approach our work hoping that this intense contemplation and endeavor will create quiet ripples within the urban fabric and settle in as a meaningful transformation.
What are the unique strengths of 'Ohhoo Architects'?
👉The strength of Ohoo Architecture is that we engage directly with various projects, encourage diverse attempts during the planning process, and brainstorm together to ensure the quality of the work.
We guard against a unilateral approach where planning is done unilaterally and employees passively follow. A deep attachment to a project is fostered through the process of equal deliberation and experimentation. I believe that it is precisely because of this intense contemplation and effort that we can enjoy the design process itself and maintain a more multifaceted architectural perspective.
👣What do you consider most important when hiring new employees?
I place the utmost importance on an attitude that knows how to enjoy the planning process itself. Architecture is more than simply drawing floor plans or decorating the exterior; it is an organic endeavor that reaches its final result through a process of countless deliberations. If you focus solely on the final outcome, it is easy to neglect the important contexts encountered during the process.
When facing a project, it is important to have the passion to flexibly extend the threads of thought and express them through various visual languages. I believe that the diverse contemplation and attempts made during the process ultimately serve as the foundation for creating a good space.
👣What should I prepare to help me prepare for job hunting?
I believe a portfolio is an important 'record of process' that reveals a designer's values and attitude toward architecture. Rather than showcasing many projects at once, it is important to select projects that best capture your vision and clearly express the process to clearly reveal your design intentions.
A portfolio is like a book containing a narrative that shows not just how many diverse projects were undertaken, but the thought process through which the results were reached. Even with just a few projects, we pay more attention to the design process of a student who has traced their deliberation, demonstrated depth of thought, and made fresh attempts.
