👉One-after opened an office in Seoul in 2022 and continues to work on architecture, space planning, and design both domestically and internationally.
👉OneAfter observes the cultural, spatial, and natural elements of each project to create architecture that provides positive experiences and environments for people. For us, novelty means effectively utilizing natural and material fundamentals to imbue spaces with new meaning and value.
👣 Does 'Won After Architectural Firm' have its own philosophy or values?
👉We believe that architecture goes beyond mere construction and serves as a medium for connecting with society. We value the moments in which a building transforms and harmonizes with its surroundings, people, and nature, as much as the process itself.
👉I want to design a space where people can stay, spend time, and breathe for a long time together with the changing environment, rather than a building that is simply an image to be consumed.
👣 What are the strengths of 'Won After Architectural Firm'?
👉We believe that architects can play a greater role. Therefore, we are currently working on a variety of projects that utilize architecture, beyond architecture and spatial design, including poetry, pavilions, and spatial branding.
👉For each project, we question the roles architecture and space can play, and we explore the most appropriate methods. Rather than defining architecture as a simple form, we focus on designing how it functions and is experienced.
👣What is the most important factor you consider when hiring new employees?
👉When considering new members for a team, I prioritize attitude and potential above all else. While the technical skills necessary for architectural practice can be sufficiently taught and learned, the attitude of asking questions, responding flexibly to diverse opinions, and growing with the team with an open mind cannot be taught.
👉This is not someone who simply seeks given answers, but someone who understands the essence of the work assigned to them, interprets it on their own through the process, and creates new possibilities.
👣What should I prepare to help me prepare for job hunting?
👉A portfolio is essential to becoming an architect. A good portfolio requires not only architectural work but also experience and interests outside of architecture.
👉Rather than a result that looks like the right answer, the process of trying a new experience of 'architecture can be like this' makes the person more three-dimensional, and a portfolio that naturally shows that trace can become a good portfolio.
👣What do you think is disappointing about students' portfolios?
👉We strive to create an architectural portfolio that everyone envisions. The portfolio doesn't have to be about architecture. Art objects and well-written essays can also be effective.
👉Therefore, rather than just focusing on architecture, I'd like it to be like a book that showcases your personality and story, showing the overall flow. Take 10 seconds to look down at your portfolio, consider its strengths and weaknesses, and adjust the margins and layout accordingly.
👣As an architect, what experience would you recommend?
👉As you walk through the city, you'll notice a lot of change from block to block. Just walking from Kookmin University to Seoul National University will reveal a tremendous amount of change. It's also a good idea to explore the city without thinking about anything, with an interest in space.
👉Also, visiting a building every year is a great way to learn. It's fun to discover why people love this person's architecture, and it can also be a chance to see how much your perspective has broadened.
