❗️JWA Architectural Firm❗️
👉JWA started in Chicago, USA in 2018 with her husband and partner, Director Jin Jae-ho, and is currently based in Seoul.
👉Based on our practical experience in Korea and the United States, we established our studio to experiment and expand our architectural approach and ideas into the real world. We view architecture as a device that transcends function and offers users new experiences and relationships. Rather than focusing on form, we focus on the spatial experience created by light, materials, movement, and the surrounding environment. We work on a wide range of projects, from small-scale to public projects, and our collaborations with university students provide valuable insights and practical training.
👣';JWA Architectural Firm'; Does it have its own philosophy or values?
👉JWA is deeply interested in the experiences architecture can create for people. This is because the position and orientation of massing can alter the way people see and feel their bodies. We also appreciate the traces of time etched in existing buildings, and strive to find the potential of what already exists and connect it meaningfully.
👉Ultimately, we are continuously exploring ways to make the relationship between people and places feel more comfortable and new.
👣What are the strengths of 'JWA Architectural Firm'?
👉I believe JWA's greatest strength lies in its collaborative approach, where two partners with different personalities and perspectives balance their differences to create a unified direction. While aiming for the same goal, each partner interprets it in a different way, strengthening the work. This also allows team members to develop their own language from diverse perspectives, rather than being fixed in a single approach, allowing them the flexibility to find the most appropriate interpretation for each project.
👣What is the most important factor you consider when hiring new employees?
👉The power of observation and the attitude of questioning are essential. Because architecture ultimately deals with the relationship between people and space, it requires a keen eye for how people use space and the emotions and flows that are created within it. Another crucial aspect is the ability to connect one's work with open communication. It's crucial to be able to grow together through collaboration.
👣What should I prepare to help me prepare for job hunting?
👉I believe it's crucial for today's students to ask themselves what kind of architect they want to become, given their exceptional technical and practical abilities. The clearer that question becomes, the more vivid your portfolio will be, reflecting the process of discovering and interpreting problems. By stepping outside the design studio and carefully observing your surroundings, you'll discover areas of interest that will undoubtedly give you a competitive edge in both employment and design.
