        
“The 119th, Capturing Space”: Le Ditour

'Le Ditour' is a neighborhood facility completed in 2020, a large bakery cafe that makes the movement and stay itself, extending from the entrance to the rooftop, into a single experience.
* Location: 1222-2, Iui-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do
[ ';Le Detour'; meaning the way back ]
💡Located at the foot of Mt. Gwanggyo, this large bakery cafe consists of three floors above ground and a rooftop space. 'Le Detour', a work by architect Kwak Hee-soo of IDEM Urban Architecture, embodies the brand's direction of experiencing nature and space by taking a brief break from the repetitive daily routine of the city.
[ The core concept of this space: 'Hospitality' ]
We viewed the cafe not merely as a commercial facility but as a place to invite guests, and designed it so that 'hospitality' begins the moment you approach the building. A garden and water feature are provided in front of the building, and the plan was designed so that visitors do not enter directly through the entrance but follow a long access path.
[ Void connecting the layers ]
The large void in the center of the building and the circular staircase visually connect the multiple floors into one. People moving through and those staying become part of each other's landscapes, and the space continuously unfolds from different angles. The heart of Le Ditour can be seen not as a specific floor or a single seat, but as the process of ascending itself.
[ ';Terrace Garden'; that becomes a place to linger ]
💡In conventional architecture, stairs are a means of movement connecting floors, but in Le Ditour, the stairs are extended into a floor and a seat. A wide platform is combined where one can sit, lie down, or lean to rest, allowing visitors to freely occupy the space.
[ Modern Reinterpretation of the Traditional 'Pyeongsang' ]
💡In the rooftop garden, stairs starting from the interior are connected, making the entire building feel like a single continuous terrain. A heating system based on the concept of ondol has been applied to the platform on the rooftop. By applying traditional ondol, the limitations of use due to the season have been reduced.
[ Publicness Created by Commercial Spaces ]
💡 Le Ditour creates a new sense of publicness within commercial spaces through the weightiness of exposed concrete, the openness of voids, and the use of stairs and benches. It is an 'architecture of hospitality' that allows people to stay comfortably at their own pace and posture.
