"Ninety-second, containing space": ⠀
📌Roh Moo-hyun Citizen Center📌
The Roh Moo-hyun Citizen Center is a civic platform that utilizes two large voids as good public spaces to create a world without boundaries between generations, classes, regions, and humans and machines.
* Location: 73 Changdeokgung-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
[ Shape and Material ]
💡The former hilly terrain has been restored, flowing naturally from floor to wall and from wall to roof. Layers of bricks are stacked to create a layered topography, while vertical joints are eliminated to emphasize horizontality.
[Citizen's Square, First Void]
💡After passing through the main entrance, you can descend directly to the basement level through the void space of the staircase-style lounge. Bringing the urban living room indoors, the space captures the calming image of the underground, creating the character of a tranquil plaza.
The space is always open, so people can use it without any barriers, and it can be used as a lounge for citizens.
[Cafe, Second Void]
💡As you ascend to the third floor, where there is a cafe and lounge along the continuous void space, the round ceiling and indirect lighting illuminating the round ceiling warmly envelop the space.
This indirect lighting evokes a sense of warmth felt above ground, based on keywords such as daily life, communication, the value of knowledge, and education. It contrasts with the preceding Citizens' Plaza, yet is visually connected to it.
[ Terrace ]
💡As you step out into the outdoor space connected to the cafe, the low, curved roof that extends from the roof to the wall catches your eye. Following the roof, you'll enjoy an open view of Changdeokgung Palace, transforming this space into a courtyard open to all.
