📌Suwon Branch Office📌
'Suwon Jigwanseo-ga' is a complex cultural space that was created by remodeling a closed school in Suwon and transforming the former school into a space for culture and communication for local residents.
* Location: Suwon Lifelong Learning Center Building 1, 2 World Cup-ro 381beongil, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do
[Jigwanseoga]
💡Jigwanseo is a foundation operated by SK Group, and is part of a social contribution project that aims to become a cultural and educational platform that grows together with the local community.
💡The name "Jigwanseo" (literally, "a space for accumulating and sharing wisdom") implies a place for learning and sharing. Beyond simply collaborating with local governments to remodel abandoned schools and vacant spaces, the center also serves a public interest through various programs, including reading, humanities, and lectures.
[ Turning a closed school into a cultural space ]
💡Suwon Jigwanseoga is a cultural space that has been preserved and renovated from the abandoned Yeonmu Middle School building. By maintaining the original classrooms and hallways while incorporating modern facilities, the space aims to become, as its name suggests, a "space for reading, quieting the mind, and contemplation."
💡It contains both environmental value and social significance by reducing unnecessary demolition and realizing sustainable architecture.
[ Openness and Connectivity ]
💡The most prominent features of the remodeling process are openness and connectivity. Large windows and transparent walls seamlessly connect the interior and exterior, and the corridors' architecture facilitates communication and movement.
💡In particular, the space that breaks down the boundaries between classrooms and provides a sense of visual expansion creates an open space where anyone can stay comfortably.
[Cultural Complex Space for Citizens]
💡The Wonji Library is not just a building; it functions as a cultural platform for the residents' lives. Humanities lectures, reading projects, and various civic gatherings are regularly held here, and visitors are free to browse the books. This space, a multi-cultural space where learning, relaxation, and interaction occur simultaneously, revitalizes the local community.
[Gardens and Outdoor Spaces]
💡Suwon Branch Library remodeled the existing building, creating an open, sunken structure and terraced outdoor space. The independent garden connects the indoors with nature, providing visitors with a relaxing space where they can experience the greenery up close. This space, where visitors can relax and read a book or chat, serves as a haven for residents to enjoy their daily lives.
