⠀
📌Hyundai Card Design Library📌
'Hyundai Card Design Library' is a renovation library by architect Choi Wook, who reinterpreted light and space within the context of a traditional Korean house.
* Location: 129-1 Gahui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul
[ Repository of Knowledge ]
💡The Hyundai Card Design Library is more than just a library; it is a repository of knowledge that archives design-related materials and rare books.
💡Here, visitors can enjoy a quiet yet focused time of reading and contemplation through the experience of books, light, and space coming together in a tranquil atmosphere.
💡The space, where traditional locality and modern sensibility are in harmony, delivers a deep sense of immersion and special cultural meaning at every moment of stay.
[ Sarangchae and Jungjeong ]
💡The third floor features a modern reinterpretation of spatial hierarchy, incorporating the concept of a sarangchae (love quarters). A courtyard sits at the center of the building, seamlessly connecting the interior and the sky through vertical and horizontal axes. Visitors can experience the depth and continuity of space through their gaze and movement.
[ Experience of Light, Strategy of Conservation ]
💡The three sides surrounding the courtyard are made of glass, bringing in abundant natural light and visually connecting with the outside landscape.
💡In addition, by precisely analyzing the sun's altitude and amount of sunlight, we strategically placed bookshelves and reading spaces to utilize light as an experiential element while safely preserving materials.
[Materials and Senses]
💡The exterior, with its black brick walls and exposed concrete panels, evokes both tradition and modernity. Inside, the warm texture of wood contrasts with the cool materials of iron and stainless steel, adding depth and tension to the space. This harmony creates a calming yet immersive experience for visitors.
