  Fifth in the Architects Insight series
  In this volume 5 of Architects Insight, we introduce the Ulleungdo Cosmos Resort designed by architect Chanjoong Kim of THE_SYSTEM LAB.
  THE_SYSTEM LAB is an architectural group that aims to "present a new architectural trend through rational innovation." They have tried to present a fresh style that responds to the flow of the times by incorporating new materials and technologies into architecture. In particular, in the Ulleungdo Cosmos Resort, they presented a masterpiece that focuses on the spectacular scenery by phenomenologically anchoring in the rugged nature of Ulleungdo based on the construction ability that concentrated such attempts. This artistic attempt that goes beyond construction has been widely evaluated, and this work has swept related awards not only in Korea but also in Hong Kong, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
  With so many awards, the beautiful exterior and construction details of Ulleungdo Cosmos Resort have become somewhat known to the general public. However, beyond the general interest and superficial impressions, nine architecture professors from Architects Insight have provided an opportunity to analyze the building in detail as if dissecting it in each design stage, and have provided a direction for understanding the building in depth through commentary through “architectural insights discovered in the design process.” Architects Insight has divided the design process into nine parts: Site, Program, Concept, Process, Plan, Section, Landscape, Material, and Detail, and has included the architect’s explanation and expert interpretation, commentary, and critique of each stage.
